“We are entirely in favor of changing the way sentences are carried out”declared Béatrice Brugère, secretary general of the Syndicat Unité Magistrats FO (SNMFO), Wednesday December 25, on franceinfo, in reaction to the statements of Gérald Darmanin. The new Minister of Justice declared, Wednesday afternoon, that he wanted “more speed”of “firmness” and means.

The SNMFO is in favor of this and particularly wishes the creation “ultra short sentences” pour “first-time offenders and for young minors”. A way, according to Béatrice Brugère, to go faster and get an answer “adapted, proportional and effective”.

This would require additional establishments (built or rehabilitated) and “think differently about prisons”, explains the SNMFO general secretary. “We also need to change the law”she continues, “the latest laws on the execution of sentences ensure that all prison sentences are adjusted to six months. You should know that practically 40% of sentences are immediately adjusted.”
