The Ministry of Transport of Quebec (MTQ) announced this outage on the 511 account X and on the billboard at the entrance to Laurentides Park, around 7 a.m.

Several media outlets relayed this message to inform the many motorists traveling between Quebec and Saguenay during the holiday period. Around 9 a.m., the MTQ announced that the situation was back to normal.

“After verification, this information was incorrect and no L’Étape terminal was out of order this morning,” indicated Jonatan Côté, spokesperson for Hydro-Québec, in the afternoon.

The state-owned company noted “completely normal” recharges in its statistics. The terminals were displayed as powered and available in the Electric Circuit mobile application.

An honest mistake

The MTQ received this erroneous information from the L’Étape team. The latter wrongly believed that participating in Hydro-Québec's advanced management programs had an impact on the terminals.

However, there was no impact since these installations are powered independently. “It was an honest mistake on his part,” explains Jonatan Côté.

In the event of a breakdown, two fast terminals remain accessible by being powered by a generator in this rest area, he adds.

“We are in contact with L’Étape and with the MTQ to ensure that this type of situation does not happen again,” concludes the spokesperson.
