US Secretary of State Blinken highlighted, during a recent meeting of the United Nations Security Council, the importance of the partnership between Morocco and the United States in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). ). In particular, Mr. Blinken highlighted the creation this summer of the UN Group of Friends on AI, a joint initiative of the two countries aimed at promoting digital cooperation on a global scale. This group, open to all UN member states, allows international experts to discuss best practices for the adoption of AI.

The top US diplomat hailed the group as “real progress,” adding that it provides an essential forum to discuss the opportunities and challenges that AI represents for international peace and security. This initiative is part of a series of efforts to integrate emerging technologies into global thinking on security and sustainable development. In July, Morocco and the United States also co-chaired the adoption of the first UN resolution on AI, with the participation of 125 countries.

The launch of this Group of Friends of AI demonstrates Morocco's leading role in promoting technological innovation, thus strengthening its influence on the international scene. This strategic role is part of the strong partnership between Rabat and Washington, based on close cooperation in various areas, including diplomacy, security and the digital economy. Furthermore, a recent report from the French Development Agency (AFD) ranks Morocco as the leading African destination in terms of AI investment potential.
