(Killeen) A fleeing motorist drove a pickup truck into a busy Texas JCPenney store Saturday, injuring five people before being shot and killed by law enforcement, authorities said.

Four of the injured were transported from the Killeen Mall to hospitals and the fifth left alone, Sergeant Bryan Washko of the Texas Department of Public Safety said during an evening press briefing. They ranged in age from 6 to 75 and their health conditions were not immediately known.
Ofelia Miramontez of the Killeen Police Department said the incident began with calls about an erratic driver in a black pickup truck in Belton, about 20 miles away.
The pursuit began around 5 p.m. on Highway 14, according to Sergeant Washko. The driver stopped and drove into the shopping center parking lot, hit the department store and continued on his way, the police officer detailed.
Local law enforcement at the mall – an on-duty security guard and two off-duty security guards – also exchanged gunfire with the suspect, he added.
Sergeant Washko had no information on the identity of the suspect.
