After more than a year from the authorization of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the consequent start of the procedures pursuant to art. 17 – paragraph 5 – of law 84/94, the Port Enterprise was born in Gioia Tauro, a limited liability company which will have as its object the supply of temporary work to port companies (articles 16 and 18 of Law 84/94).
This was communicated by the president of the Port System Authority of the southern Tyrrhenian and Ionian seas, Andrea Agostinelli, who, with pride and satisfaction, announced the unanimous signing of the management regulation of the newly established company and of the related economic and financial between the Port System Authority of the southern Tyrrhenian and Ionian seas, the MedCenter Container Terminal and the port companies pursuant to art. 16 (Sea Work Service, International Shipping and Universal Services).
After this first important phase, which began in September 2023 with the authorization of the ministry and the related formal start of the establishment procedure, through the publication of the notice to promote the participation of companies pursuant to art. 16 and 18 to the establishment of the Port Labor Agency of Gioia Tauro srl, the notarial deed of incorporation will be signed in the first three years of 2025.
The company being established finds the foundation to follow up on the Gioia Tauro Port Agency, the port agency established in 2017, through the program agreement signed on 07/27/2016 between the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of economic development, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies, the Calabria Region, Invitalia and the Port System Authority of the Southern Tyrrhenian and Ionian Seas, for the administration of work and the professional retraining of those workers made redundant by port companies authorized to handle container handling.
Expiring on December 31st, unless extended pending discussion in Parliament among the amendments presented to the budget, in the port of Gioia Tauro the two essential conditions coexist, in accordance with the law, to be placed at the basis of the establishment of the future company ex art. 17: the deadline of the Port Agency and the existence of members on its lists which currently number fifty.
This important milestone was achieved thanks to the active participation of the entire port community which placed, at the basis of everything, the maintenance of the high performances and operations of the port of Gioia Tauro, but also thanks to the hiring by the terminal operator Autormar spa, of 25 workers, previously registered in the lists of the port agency, thus determining the reduction in the number of members to be transferred to the port company.
With a financial base of share capital of 250 thousand euros, to which a further 750 thousand euros are added to cover the initial start-up costs, for a total of 1 million euros, the company will have to reach the level of sustainability within three years since its constitution.
Since it is a mixed public-private company, the Port System Authority of the southern Tyrrhenian and Ionian seas will participate by subscribing 49 percent of the share capital, while the remaining part of the company shares will be acquired, for 42 percent, by the MedCenter Container Terminal and, for 9 percent, by port companies pursuant to art. 16 (Sea Work Service, International Shipping and Universal Services), each of which will subscribe a 3 percent share.
With an eye to its staff, at the time of its establishment, it will be made up of the 50 units currently registered in the lists of the Port Agency, who will thus be hired on a permanent basis, to which a further 70 workers will be added, equipped with specific professional qualifications required by the market.
Among the tasks carried out by the company to be established is the supply of temporary port labor in cases of work peaks and, therefore, the selection and hiring of port workers, with permanent contracts, for a total of 120 people.
The Company will also have the function of monitoring the training needs of personnel and preparing the relevant training programs and plans.
“The establishment of this company – declared the president Andrea Agostinelli – has always represented an objective that I would have liked to achieve before the expiry of my mandate.
A company that ensured the response to the so-called peaks of work for an important port, such as that of Gioia Tauro, but also and above all for having put an end to the adventure of the dock workers registered with the Port Agency with their stabilization.
It is a fundamental objective – concluded Agostinelli – for which I must thank the port community of Gioia Tauro as a whole, for helping me reach this important goal before the end of my presidential mandate”.
Taking part in the press conference were the president of the Port System Authority of the southern Tyrrhenian and Ionian seas, Andrea Agostinelli, accompanied by the general secretary Pasquale Faraone, the manager of the Finance Area Luigi Ventrici and the legal manager of the entity Lavinia Strangi , the CEO of MedCenter Container Terminal, Antonio Davide Testi, the sole director of Sea Work Service, Domenico Angelo Bilotta, the CEO of International Shipping, Antonio Bartuni, and the president of the Board of Directors Letterio Bagalà and the managing director Rocco Bagalà of Universal Services.
