Alberta forward Tanya Boychuk joins the Roses. The 24-year-old gunner played until last November with the club Vittsjö GIK, in the Swedish first division.
In Montreal, she joins another attacker, Latifah Abdu, announced as a new player for the Roses last Tuesday, as well as Quebec goalkeeper Gabrielle Lambert and French midfielder Charlotte Bibault.
Last year in Sweden, Boychuk scored 7 goals and 2 assists in 25 appearances. The previous year, with the Icelandic team Thróttur Reykjavík, it was 6 goals and 2 assists in 23 games, which included the championship “goal of the year”.
“Tanya is a passionate and cheerful woman,” emphasizes Marinette Pichon, sports director of the club. We were won over by his solid experience in attack, his keen eye for goal and his impeccable work ethic. As an experienced striker, she knows how to position herself ideally in the box and turn even tougher chances into goals. »
For Boychuk, the SLN is a way to “be part of history and contribute to meaningful change,” she says.
“My goal is to help grow women’s soccer, not only in Canada, but around the world. »
Tanya Boychuk developed with the University of Memphis, where she served as captain. She was a two-time AAC All-Conference First Team selection, in 2020-2021 and 2021, as well as a Second-Team-All-American selection, in 2021.
In addition to her professional career in Iceland and Sweden, the Edmonton native earned a first call-up with the senior national team in 2022. She also wore the colors of the maple leaf during the CONCACAF U20 championships ( 2018, 2020).
She is also a former diving athlete, and is fluent in three languages: English, French, and Ukrainian.
She will meet the media on Thursday morning.
