Laval police arrested a leading member of a drug trafficking network in Laval on Wednesday, following an investigation lasting several years.
“During the investigation, which lasted several years, the Laval Police Service (SPL) was able to establish that important players acted as suppliers for drug sellers who had a well-established clientele,” the police force reported in a press release on Thursday.
The police operation carried out by the Organized Crime squad culminated on Wednesday with the arrest of a “key player” of this criminal organization during yet another search, in what the SPL described as the “final phase” of its investigation into a “distribution network operating in Laval territory”, we can read.
The alleged leader, identified as Leonidas Plastaras, 40, was handcuffed on Wednesday. He now faces charges of drug trafficking and breach of conditions.
“He remains detained following his arrest,” the SPL said in writing.
The first waves of interventions in the case took place in 2023, before continuing during the summer of 2024, according to the Laval police.
During these searches which led to several arrests, the operation would have allowed the withdrawal from the market of drugs, such as heroin and cocaine, as well as the seizure of “several criminal goods”.
Yesterday’s operation mobilized different teams, including Organized Crime squads, as well as the SPL Tactical Intervention Group, it was added.
