In Wallonia, the ban on oil boilers, provided for in the Air Climate Energy Plan (PACE) of the previous government, will be postponed, assured the regional Minister of Energy, Cécile Neven, on Wednesday, in plenary session of the Walloon parliament.
“This ‘Stop oil boiler’ is one of the 295 PACE measures. It has not been implemented and as long as it is not translated into law, it does not exist”immediately recalled the liberal, questioned on the subject by the deputy MR Olivier Maroy. “This measure will be subject to adaptation because the dates planned in PACE are not realistic. Rather than an outright ban which will have zero results on the ground, for lack of alternatives, I prefer to take a little more time to arrive at practicable legislation”said the minister.
According to the Air Climate Energy Plan, the installation of oil (and coal) heating appliances was to be prohibited from March 1, 2025 in new buildings. As for existing buildings, in the event of replacement of an old installation, the ban had to take place no later than January 1, 2026.
Concretely, these two dates will be postponed. “For new, well-insulated buildings, this will undoubtedly be a slight postponement. On the other hand, it is much more complex for existing buildings, in particular because the housing stock is not in a state of repair. exceptional PEB”, Cécile Neven further clarified. “We need to think about alternatives. Consultations with the sector are underway and this is one of the issues that will be addressed in 2025”she concluded.
