CMHC specifies that the seasonally adjusted and annualized monthly number of housing starts stood at 262,443 units in November, up from 242,207 in October.

This increase is explained by the fact that the pace of housing starts in urban centers increased by 9% to reach 245,083 in November, compared to 224,492 in October.

In Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary, more than 30,000 housing starts were recorded in each city in November.

The pace of starts of urban multiple housing units, such as apartments, condominiums and townhouses, increased 11% to 195,281, while starts of single-detached homes increased 4% to 49,802 units in centers of 100,000 inhabitants or more.

In rural areas, the number of construction starts was estimated at 17,360 units.

CMHC reports that the six-month trend in the seasonally adjusted annual rate of housing starts decreased 0.3% to 243,268 units in November.
