A heartless woman who allegedly defrauded residents of the Verdun borough, in Montreal, is wanted by the police, who are asking for the public’s help to catch her.
The suspect is believed to be involved in “false representative” fraud, a type of scam that continues to claim a large number of victims in the province and elsewhere in Canada.
The network of fraudsters, to which the wanted woman is believed to be connected, contacts its victims by telephone, posing as a false police officer.
The scammers then claim that a fraudulent transaction was made on their bank card or credit card.
After gaining their victim’s trust, the fraudsters ask the victim to place their cards in an envelope, specifying that a police officer will come and collect them from their home.
It is at this moment that the suspect – who does not look like a police officer – intervenes. She goes to the victim’s home to collect the cards and they are then used to make fraudulent purchases in businesses. In other cases, money withdrawals are made from bank accounts.
The suspect sought is an overweight woman with white skin, aged in her twenties and speaking French.
She is approximately 5’3″ (1.60 m) tall and has long, dark brown hair. She has a tattoo on the top of her right hand that covers her index and middle fingers.
Anyone with information about the wanted woman is invited to contact Info-Crime at 514 393-1133.
