After two years of absence, rapper Mor Talla Gueye, known as Nit Doff, returned to his audience during the 13th edition of his annual event, Show of the Year. This concert, which was held on Saturday at the Pikine national arena, was marked by exceptional fervor, with fans coming from the four corners of the country to cheer their rappers.
This edition had a special flavor, marking Nit Doff’s long-awaited return to the stage after an absence due, in part, to difficult personal circumstances, including his imprisonment. Apart from a notable performance on June 21 for the Fête de la Musique, the artist had stayed away from the hip-hop scene. But this 13th edition, placed under the sign of resilience and celebration, was an opportunity for Nit Doff to reconnect with his fans and reaffirm his status as an icon of Senegalese hip-hop.
The Show of the Year 2024 brought together a host of artists from different generations, offering the public unforgettable moments. New wave artists in attendance included Dip Doundou Guiss, Admow Flow, Leuz Diwan G, Akbess, Gun Mor, Mister Cash, BM Jaay, Big Da X, Akatsuki, El Diaz, Elzo Jamdong among others. Legendary figures of Senegalese hip-hop were also there, including Gun Man Xuman, Ndongo D, Duggu Tee, PPS, Sir Jamal and Fun N’Kuk.
The event also attracted international talent, such as the Unity Crew group, from Belgium and France, who enriched the show with energetic and innovative performances.
Each of the artists shone on stage, offering performances that kept the audience in suspense for hours.
For Nit Doff, this edition was not just a spectacle. In an emotional statement, the rapper explained that the Show of the Year was above all a tribute to Senegalese youth, whom he praised for their patriotic commitment during the tumultuous socio-political periods that the country has recently gone through.
“I am completely satisfied with this edition. We had an amazing time with my fans, and it allowed me to release all the accumulated stress. Seeing this enthusiastic and communicative audience is a reminder that hip-hop will never die (‘Rap dou massa dé’). Their large presence and their energy were an immense source of joy and inspiration for me,” he said.
This year, the slogan of Show of the Year was “Freedom and Hope: Liberté et Espoir”. Nit Doff urged young people to remain tough, courageous and patient in pursuing their goals. He encouraged them to draw their motivation from the progress made by the new government, which he described as carrying a discourse of rupture and positive change.
“These young people fought to gain their freedom. Today we have every reason to be hopeful. The path traveled and the current perspectives invite us to believe in a better future,” he added.
Since his beginnings, Nit Doff has imposed his mark on the Senegalese musical landscape. Thanks to the support of his sponsors, goodwill and above all his loyal community of fans, the “Killer Family”, he transformed the Show of the Year into an unmissable hip-hop event.
With this successful 13th edition, the artist confirms his place at the top and suggests a promising future for the next editions of this great cultural event.
