The Swiss will not compete in the final of the 4×100 medley relay on Sunday at the short course World Championships in Budapest. Bollin, Droupy, Ponti and Mityukov, however, broke the Swiss record.
In the heats, Thierry Bollin (back), Louis Droupy (breaststroke), Noè Ponti (butterfly) and Roman Mityukov (crawl) even exploded this record which dated from 2018 (Thierry Bollin, Yannick Käser, Nils Liess, Manuel Leuthard) improving by more than 8 seconds (3’24”74). They set the 10th time among the 27 nations entered, 86 hundredths from the 8th and last qualifying place for the final.
Thierry Bollin also broke the Swiss record during his run in the 100m backstroke. With a time of 49’84, he improved his own record dating from 2022 by 26 hundredths.
No final for Mityukov and Djakovic
Individually, Roman Mityukov failed to reach the final in the 200m backstroke, his favorite distance, after his eliminations in the 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle. The 24-year-old from Geneva, bronze medalist at the Paris Olympic Games this summer, set the 20th time in the series (1’52”87), more than a second and a half from the final.
Antonio Djakovic was also not at the party during these Hungarian games. As in the 400m freestyle, he was eliminated from the heats of the 200m freestyle, only setting the 33rd overall time (1’45”03), more than two seconds from his Swiss record and the time necessary for reach the final.
