Dolly Parton has made rare confidences about her 58 years of marriage to her husband, Carl Thomas Dean.
The country music star, 78, has been married to her husband, 82, since 1966. They got married two years after meeting in Nashville.
During an interview with the podcast Dumb Blonde by Bunnie Xo, Dolly Parton revealed some of the secrets of their lasting union.
“He’s quiet and I’m loud, and we’re funny,” she said. “He’s hilarious. And I think one of the things that has made our union last over the years is that we love each other [et] we respect each other, but [aussi que] We’re having a lot of fun.”
She added that they relied on their shared sense of humor to get through difficult times in their marriage.
“Whenever there is too much tension, one or the other can come up with a joke to relieve the pressure and keep things from going too far,” she said.
“We never argued. And today I’m glad we never did, because once you start this, it becomes a lifelong thing. I saw this in so many people, and I said to myself, “I will never start this.” I couldn’t stand the idea that he would say something that I couldn’t stand… because I’m a very sensitive person towards others and myself.”
The balance of the couple would also be based on their differences, according to Dolly Parton. “We’re complete opposites, but that’s what makes it fun,” she said in 2015. “I never know what he’s going to say or do. He always surprises me.”
Carl Dean, who worked in the asphalt paving business, is rarely seen in public.
The couple renewed their vows in 2016 at their Nashville home.
