Faced with the Russian threat, many Ukrainians are trained in combat by Belgian soldiers. One of them spoke to our microphone.
The outgoing Minister of Defense, Ludivine Dedonder (PS), traveled to Romania on Thursday alongside the Head of Defense, on the occasion of an end-of-year visit to the Belgian military present in the country. Since 2022, Belgium has participated in NATO’s multinational battle group, deployed following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, at the request of Bucharest.
Belgian Defense is also involved in training Ukrainian soldiers. So far, 2,500 kyiv soldiers have been trained by our troops. One of his Ukrainian soldiers answered a few questions on RTL info.
« Belgian soldiers teach us how to use tools and techniques to know when we return to Ukraine“, he explains. “ They also explain to us how to lead troops and the protocols to follow to inform ourselves effectively before going into combat.« .
Will this soldier, trained by our Defense, go directly to the front after this training? “ Probably, but it’s a scary experience. The front line is not a place of joy. I have a few friends who were there and died a few months ago. I still know some who are there. Before the war, no one imagined that life was so precious and could be taken away so easily. No one appreciated what they had until they lost it.“, he explains.
