NARRATIVE – The appointment of this faithful, slayer of the supposed “American deep state”, at the head of the powerful federal agency that Trump intends to bring to heel, worries Washington.

FBI headquarters is falling apart. In the center of Washington, on Pennsylvania Avenue, the enormous concrete building is surrounded by nets to prevent rubble from falling into the street. This giant bunker-shaped building is named for J. Edgar Hoover, the paranoid and genius founder of the Bureau, who led it for nearly half a century. He is also nicknamed « the ugliest building in the world ». Built in the early 1970s in the brutalist style popular at the time, with its cement facade pierced with false windows, it resembles an allegory of the administrative state, blind, all-powerful and faceless.

Donald Trump considers the FBI to be one of the symbols of « the deep state »the unelected bureaucracy that he believes secretly governs America, and that he wants to fight against. By announcing the appointment of Kash Patel as future director of the agency, the next president indicates his intention to bring an institution…
