The teenager disappeared Monday November 25 in Pabu, near Guingamp. The Saint-Brieuc public prosecutor will hold a press conference at 4 p.m. this Monday to provide an update on the research. At this stage of the investigation, no lead, kidnapping or runaway, is favored.
It's been a week since Morgane Rivoal, a 13-year-old teenager, gave no sign of life in Pabu, near Guingamp, in Côtes-d'Armor. While she was supposed to go to school on Monday, November 25, her college, located in Graces, reported that she had never arrived.
The same evening, the gendarmes published a worrying disappearance notice before opening an investigation. The public prosecutor of Saint-Brieuc, Nicolas Heitz, will hold a press conference this Monday, December 2 at 4 p.m., to take stock of the research.
Under what circumstances did she disappear?
Monday, around 7:15 a.m., Morgane left her home in Pabu, a town of 2,800 inhabitants where the young girl was born. Her parents didn't see her leave, busy getting ready, but they still heard her say “Goodbye” as usual, explains the prosecutor. The teenager then had to walk 300 meters to the school bus stop, in which she should have boarded to reach the Albert-Camus college, in Grâces, where she attends school.
The teachers, noticing his absence, informed his parents, who alerted the Guingamp gendarmerie of his disappearance. In the evening, the gendarmes published a first wanted notice on social networks, with the description of Morgane: “She is 1.54 m tall, of normal build, long wavy brown hair, blue/green eyes. She would be carrying a pink Eastpack bag.”
What do we know about the family context?
The teenager “had never run away in the past” more “a dispute arose with her parents over the weekend relating in particular to Morgane’s use of social networks”according to the prosecutor. After “a lively discussion”, “her father broke his daughter’s cell phone and took her SIM card”added the magistrate. According to the testimony of a friend of the teenager, Morgane “was able to indicate on social networks that she would not come to class on Monday”. Which arouses the parents' incomprehension, since the young girl no longer had a cell phone since Saturday evening.
“If she is there, if she sees us, we tell her: come back because we can't take it anymore, we are tired. […] It’s very hard for her whole family, for her brother, her sister, it’s very, very hard not to see her anymore.”said his mother. For her, the disappearance of her daughter is inexplicable. She describes her as a well-adjusted young girl, with good grades at school. She wanted to become a ball boy at Roland-Garros and had to pass a selection this Sunday in Saint-Malo. The whole family planned to make the trip. “Her friends, the people she meets don’t understand what’s happening. […] We don’t see her leaving like that and throwing all her plans in the trash.”explains his mother again.
Where is the investigation?
Led by the research brigade of the Guingamp gendarmerie company, reinforced by soldiers from the Rennes research section, the investigation was opened by the public prosecutor of Saint-Brieuc. “The gendarmerie units are fully committed to exploring all avenues in order to find this young girl as quickly as possible. This commitment will not weaken as long as this teenager is missing.said prosecutor Nicolas Heitz in a press release.
The authorities initially favored a runaway, but this hypothesis is no longer put forward at this stage of the investigation. During the search, two dogs “took the track from home to the Castel-Pic district of Guingamp, where they lost the track”explained Nicolas Heitz on Friday. That is, barely 700 meters from the family home.
All weekend, the police went door to door, looking for evidence. “The searches carried out at the family home and in other homes of his relations proved unsuccessful”adds the magistrate.
What are the means deployed?
The local river and ponds were surveyed by the research teams. From 7 a.m. this Monday morning, a force of 25 gendarmes was on the Chemin du Ricaër, in Pabu, between the stop of the bus that Morgane should have taken last Monday and the Castel-Pic district, where the gendarmerie dogs lost his trace, to question passers-by.
In addition to the divers and the helicopter mobilized, two searches were also carried out. On Friday, there were 700 to 800 volunteers who responded to the town hall's call, including members of the neighboring En Avant Guingamp (L2) football club. “Our players are joining the search to find Morgane, who has been missing for several days. The training scheduled for today has been postponed.announced the club on social networks. “I am very satisfied and very pleasantly surprised to see that people are mobilizing and feeling concerned by this disappearance. I know the family is very touched too”declared Jean-Baptiste Gautier, commander of the Guingamp gendarmerie company which is leading the search operations.
