The 5th day of the C1 league phase experienced its share of surprises this Tuesday, November 26. Achraf Hakimi’s PSG fell against Bayern Munich (0-1) while FC Barcelona confirmed its supremacy during its meeting with Brest (3-0). For its part, Manchester City conceded a draw with its evening rival, the Dutch Feyenoord.
The miracle did not happen for Stade Brestois which lost to a great FC Barcelona by 3 goals to zero, led by Robert Lewandoski. The Pole scored a double, and incidentally his 100th and 101st goal in the Champions League, thus joining the big leagues. The latter opened the scoring in the 10th minute from the penalty spot.
In the second half, Dani Olmo doubled the score in the 66th minute before Lewandowski scored twice in the 90+2nd minute. FC Barcelona is provisionally 2nd in the Champions League league stage standings while Brest is 9th.
For its part, PSG where Achraf Hakimi carved out a leadership role for himself, visibly did not take the lead this evening, being overtaken by Bayern Munich who won 1-0 thanks to Kim Min-Jae , in the 38th minute.
This defeat for the Parisians does not automatically mean their elimination, but direct qualification is probably out of reach, as is seeded status for the play-offs.
For their part, Bayern are now undefeated in 33 Champions League group matches at home (31 wins, 2 draws) since their 3-2 defeat against Manchester City in December 2013.
On the English side, Manchester City conceded a draw against the Dutch Feyenoord at the Etihad. Pep Guardiola’s team, which remained on a series of five defeats in all competitions, conceded three goals in the last quarter of an hour.
Another faltering giant, AC Milan barely beat Bratislava 3-2, but thus became the top seed among the play-offs (14th).
Bayer Leverkusen and Atlético Madrid signed the two cards of the evening, respectively against Salzburg (5-0) and in Prague (6-0) including a goal from Antoine Griezmann) and are ideally placed for the phases to direct elimination.
Bergamo and Arsenal won away 6-1 for Atalanta against the red lantern Young Boys of Bern and 5-1 for the Gunners against Sporting Portugal. The two clubs remain clinging to the first eight places in the ranking, 4th and 8th respectively.
A ranking temporarily dominated by Inter Milan, small winner at home against Leipzig 1-0, thanks to an own goal from French defender Castello Lukeba.
The Interists are first ahead of Barcelona and Liverpool who welcome Real Madrid on Wednesday in the shock of this 5th day of the Champions League.
