Senegalese migrants: The fear of a forced return home after the election of Donald Trump

Senegalese migrants in an irregular situation in the United States of America have expressed their concern about a possible application of the expulsion measure for illegal migrants promised by the new American president, Donald Trump.

The 47e President of the United States of America must officially take office on January 20, but the mention of this date is already causing concern and may sound like a countdown for many illegal migrants in Uncle’s country. Sat.

Especially since at the height of the electoral campaign for the recent presidential election, Donald Trump constantly repeated his intention to implement a “historic project of mass deportation of migrants who entered American soil through unconventional ways.

Such a measure signifying the return to the fold naturally provokes a feeling of concern among Senegalese in an irregular situation in the United States of America.

”No one I know would have wanted him back. This is a man (Donald Trump) who has openly expressed his intentions. And his hostility towards migrants is an open secret,” testified via an interview with the APS on social networks Cheikh Ibra Sarr, a native of Tivaouane (Thies region) established in New York.

Speaking through the same channel, Aliou Lo, who lives and works in the state of Minnesota, swears he has a knot in his throat. He declares that his work permit application was rejected for the first time. At the same time, he said he did not have much hope for his second request.

Far from this state of dismay generated by all-out announcements and comments, other compatriots are brandishing the card of faith and resilience.

”The mass deportations announced by President Trump will only concern criminals, fraudsters, those who have not yet applied for asylum,” believes Alioune Badara Sarr, a Senegalese expatriate living in Baltimore, Maryland.

”We certainly did not wait for the issuance of an entry visa to set foot on American soil but we bring, through our activities, added value to the economy of this country. We are respectful of public standards and lead a healthy life without turbulence,” he insists, without fearing a possible application of the expulsion order.

Other migrants, for their part, try to convince themselves to live without apparent anxiety. Like Aliou Diop who evokes the amplifying effect of social networks regarding this project of mass expulsion of illegal migrants from the United States of America.

”I find that the Senegalese are a bit exaggerated. They are also the most numerous to broach this subject and to create unnecessary fear among their loved ones,” he argues. The native of Mboro affirms, undoubtedly fatalistic: ”Nothing can happen apart from what God has planned for us”.

”Personally, I do not join this popular terror. This country is a country of law, everything is structured and procedural. When I came, with the support of my employer, I was issued a work permit and social security to carry out an activity,” recalls Khadim Bamba Guèye.

The young man from Guédiawaye in the suburbs of Dakar says he engaged in these procedures very early on to be able to regularize his situation.

In Michigan, where he took refuge to escape the sights of the American authorities who often target the state of New York, he says he fears nothing at the moment.

”We do not know exactly the terms of his deportation plan but hope with God’s help that if our asylum requests are accepted we will not be affected,” he said.

In defense of President Trump, Sheikh Ibra Sarr invites everyone to be honest with themselves. ”The new American president just wants to protect his nation. He loves his country, we have to recognize that,” he said.

It’s good to live here, ”but I’m not afraid to return to Senegal. In the end I will find mine there. Simply from here, I could help improve their living conditions,” he emphasizes.

In a post on his own social media ‘TRUTH’, President Trump recently confirmed a conservative activist’s claim that millions of undocumented migrants will be brought home with the help of the military. American.
