Update. Rescue workers discovered four bodies and three survivors on Tuesday the day after a tourist boat sank off Egypt's east coast, Red Sea Governor Amr Hanafi said.
The boat, which carried “31 tourists of different nationalities as well as 13 crew members”, had launched distress signals Monday at 5:30 a.m. (03:30 GMT), according to the Red Sea governorate.
Mr. Amr Hanafi indicated in a statement on Tuesday that four bodies had been found. They have not yet been identified.
Among the three survivors are two Belgian tourists and an Egyptian, the governor said, bringing the total number of survivors to 31.
“Rescue operations continue to find nine people still missing”, he added.
Strong waves
In addition, one question still remained unanswered, how could the Sea Story shipwreck? According to Belgian media, Egyptian meteorological services had planned a “Rough sea and strong waves” in the Mediterranean.
They also advised to “suspend all maritime activities Sunday and Monday”.
The Sea Story has left Port Ghalib near Marsa Alam Saturday for a 5-day diving trip, specifies the BBC. This very touristy region is particularly famous for diving thanks to its coral reefs very rich.
According to the diving site Dive magazine, there would be on board: four British divers, two Americans, two Belgians, a Chinese, four Egyptians, one Finn, an Irishman, two Norwegians, two Polish divers, two Slovaks and two Swiss divers. The return to Hurghada was scheduled for November 29.
