Wrestler Siteu would have categorically refused to submit to a doping test after his fight against Modou Lo. An obligation nevertheless enshrined in the sporting regulations. This gesture, perceived as a serious breach of the rules, aroused indignation in the Modou Lô camp and relaunched the debate on the fight against doping in the Senegalese arena.
According to Khadim Gadiaga, president of the Rock Energie team, this refusal by Siteu is an attack on fair play and respect for the texts which govern wrestling. “Modou Lô agreed to take the test and stayed at the National Arena for two hours to urinate twice, but Siteu categorically refused. If it was in other disciplines like athletics or boxing, that kind failure to do so would result in the victory being annulled,” he said.
Siteu’s refusal could have significant repercussions. The general secretary of the National Anti-Doping Sports Organization (Onads) indicated that “the organization would rule on his case. The National Management Committee (CNG) of the fight could also toughen the sanctions, which include financial fines and, in in certain cases, the annulment of the results of a fight.”
A mixed reaction from the authorities
Questioned about this matter, the president of the CNG, Pierre Malick Ngom, preferred to procrastinate, affirming that “we had to wait for the results of the Modou Lô test and the supervisors’ reports to make a decision.” According to the newspaper Les Echos, this caution contrasts with the strict warnings launched in 2014 by Dr Alioune Sarr, former president of the CNG, who recalled that athletes must submit to tests under penalty of severe sanctions, which could go up to to radiation.
