“By placing structures close to nature and native plants in your garden, you not only support the robin, but also many other birds and useful insects,” recalls BirdLife. Native shrubs and trees, as well as flowering meadows or lawns that offer a wide variety of flowers throughout the season, are especially important for insects and all animals that feed on them. Ivy against the wall of the house or a dead tree in the garden also provide food and nesting opportunities. “Leaving dead leaves on site or in piles in autumn provides shelter for animals even during the cold season,” notes the association. As for the garden, leaving a few areas unmown encourages wildlife.
