“We have had 449 confirmed cases of measles. 33 health districts out of the 79 in the country have crossed the threshold of the measles epidemic. In percentage terms, this represents 41%,” declared Doctor Abdoulaye Mangane during the information day organized as a prelude to the national childhood vaccination campaign against measles and rubella.

He stressed that “the last cases of death, 2 in number, date back to 2022”. Since then, “no case of death has been recorded”.

This campaign faces a number of challenges, he said. He stressed the need for “strengthening awareness based on the combination of communication strategies used: mass (, radio, written press); inform true and fair to extinguish rumors; management of refusals and reluctance cases and intensifying information to doubtful groups”.

He added that “participation in the success of the campaign is based on highlighting its benefits for the target”. Dr Mangane called for a higher level of support for the support of the population.

According to him, “some 7,326,586 children are to be vaccinated during this campaign with 8 million doses of vaccines which will cover this target”.
The district of Yeumbeul, in the suburbs of Dakar, has been selected for the launch of the campaign.
