According to Renée Larouche of the Port of Montreal, a transshipment operation carried out on Saturday around 10:30 p.m. in one of the port’s terminals led to the container falling into the St. Lawrence River. The container’s cargo is stuffed animals.

Urgence Marine Environnement is responsible for recovery operations and an investigation is underway by multiple stakeholders.

The container of stuffed animals is no exception: on February 13, 1997, a container filled with Lego bricks was lost by the cargo ship Tokio Express, off the coast of Land’s End, United Kingdom. A total of 4,756,940 Lego pieces were there, the vast majority of which had a sea theme.

Finally, in 1992, a container full of rubber ducks fell from a cargo ship into the Pacific Ocean. Many ducks ended up on the coasts of the Maritimes and New England, due to sea currents that drifted them from Asia to the American continent, from the Arctic Ocean.
