The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad is resolutely committed to promoting the progressive activation of the official character of the Amazigh language. This commitment is part of the government plan, as stipulated in Organic Law No. 26.16.

In an effort to promote the cultural and linguistic diversity of Morocco, the ministry has put in place a comprehensive and progressive action program. This system aims to ensure the full activation of the Amazigh language in all of the ministry’s activities.

Among the flagship measures of this program, an imminent initiative will soon be deployed across diplomatic missions and Moroccan consular centers, the ministry said in a response to a written question sent by the parliamentary group of the Popular Movement (MP) .

The ministry also plans to include the name of its entity in the Amazigh language in the header of its official correspondence. In addition, signage devices, including signs of certification offices and the fronts of consular offices opened as part of the “Marhaba” operation in ports, will now display Amazigh alongside Arabic, said the same source.

To guarantee quality service, an orientation system in Amazigh will be set up via a toll-free number dedicated to consular centers, thus facilitating communication for users speaking the language. At the same time, the website dedicated to consular procedures and formalities, Consulat.ma, will be translated into Amazigh, making information more accessible to a wide audience, the ministry revealed in its response.

The ministry’s commitment is also reflected in the desire to recruit agents proficient in the Amazigh language in consulates where this language is widely spoken. This will not only guide and support citizens, but also ensure smooth access to consular and administrative services.
