A hat-trick from Xherdan Shaqiri (40th/91st/92nd) allowed FC Basel to beat Servette 3-1 during the 15th day of the Super League. This success allows the Rhinelanders to move to the top of the ranking.
Shaqiri was the big man in this duel at Parc Saint-Jacques. The number 10 was in all the good offensive moves of his team, which was however often pushed around by the Genevans. Servette perhaps deserved more in this part, but the visitors faltered at the conclusion. Only Cognat found the opening, after a delivery from Guillemenot (55th).
Author of the 1-0 on a free kick of which he has the secret, Shaqiri made the difference in stoppage time. He saw his penalty in the 91st being repelled by Frick, but the former international emerged to give the advantage to his own. Shortly after, he scored number three again. Basel now has 28 points, just like Lugano, but with a better goal difference. Zurich finds itself two lengths behind and Servette three lengths behind.
In the other match at the end of the afternoon, Saint-Gall and Yverdon remained at 0-0. The Brodeurs thus remain under the bar.
