The first lessons from the first round of the legislative elections, Sunday June 30, are known. First Secretary of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure, was elected in the first round in Seine-et-Marne, as was the outgoing LFI MP, Sébastien Delogu, in Marseille. Several candidates from the National Rally were also elected in the first round: Marine Le Pen in Pas-de-Calais, Sébastien Chenu in the North, Edwige Diaz in Gironde.

Fabien Roussel was beaten by an RN candidate in the North. He was eliminated in the first round, just like former minister Jérôme Cahuzac in Lot-et-Garonne, who finished fourth in his constituency. Damien Abad, a short-lived minister in Elisabeth Borne’s government, was also eliminated in the first round in Ain, where he had been a member of parliament since 2012. Follow our live stream.

Emmanuel Macron calls for a rally “against the RN”. “Faced with the National Rally, the time has come for a large, clearly Democratic and Republican gathering for the second round”declared the head of state after the first round. For the President of the Republic, the high participation shows a desire to “clarify the political situation.”

Marine Le Pen demands “an absolute majority” in the second round. “We need an absolute majority so that Jordan Bardella is appointed Prime Minister by Emmanuel Macron in eight days“, she said a few minutes 20 hours. The president of the RN for his part, presented the second round as “one of the most decisive in the entire history of the Fifth Republic.” For his part, Eric Ciotti “calls on the Republicans” to join the RN. VSHe who chose to ally himself with the National Rally, against the advice of most LR executives, believes that “victory is in sight”.

“We will withdraw our candidacy” where the RN is in the lead and the New Popular Front third, says Jean-Luc Mélenchon. In all circumstances, our instructions are clear: not one more voice for the RN.” also said the rebellious leader after the results of the first round of the legislative elections. “We are heading towards a second round of exceptional intensity. The country must choose.”

Gabriel Attal announces the withdrawal of around sixty Ensemble candidates. “It’s the choice of responsibility,” he said, adding that “p“As one vote should go to the National Rally”. “The lesson this evening is that the far right is at the gates of power. Our objective is clear: to prevent the RN from having an absolute majority and from governing the country with its disastrous project.” Edouard Philippe called on the Horizons candidates who came third to withdraw to avoid the election of RN or LFI deputies.

The final abstention should be relatively low, at 34.5%, according to our Ipsos-Talan estimate. This is 18 points less than in 2022, when 52.49% of those registered did not come to vote in the first round of the legislative elections. The dissolution of the National Assembly by Emmanuel Macron on June 9 mobilized voters. If this figure is confirmed, this election would show the highest participation in a first round of legislative elections since 1997.
