Since the start of the match, impressive black clouds had been gathering above the Westfalenstadion.
The organizers broadcast messages on the stadium’s giant screens explaining that “the match was interrupted due to bad weather conditions” and that “further information would be communicated quickly”.
The vast majority of the 60,000 spectators remained in their seats, with German supporters notably singing songs to support their team.
The meeting resumed after a 20-minute interruption.
At the four corners of the stadium, real waterfalls from the roof of the stadium were falling onto the stands, forcing the spectators who were occupying them to return to the galleries.
The Dortmund fan zone where ticketless supporters can watch the match has been evacuated, local authorities said.
