American President-elect Donald Trump announced Thursday, November 21, 2024 that he had chosen Pam Bondi, a member of his defense team during his impeachment trial in 2020, to head the Department of Justice after the withdrawal of elected Matt Gaetz.

I am honored to announce that former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi will be our next Minister of Justice wrote Donald Trump on his Truth Social network, a few hours after the withdrawal of the controversial Matt Gaetz.

Member of Trump's legal team during his impeachment trial

For too long, the Justice Department has been used against me and other Republicans. Not anymore he added.

After leaving office as Florida attorney general in 2019, Pam Bondi served on Donald Trump's team of lawyers during his Senate impeachment trial.

He was accused of having tried to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky – during a telephone conversation that went down in history – so that kyiv would investigate the son of Joe Biden, his rival for the 2020 presidential election, in exchange for crucial military aid.

Pam Bondi then joined the team of lawyers who led her unsuccessful legal challenge to Joe Biden's election.
