The State of Geneva has unveiled guidelines to guide its staff in the use of AI tools. The document specifies the authorized uses and recalls the legal obligations, in particular on the management of sensitive data.

The State of Geneva has published guidelines for its staff concerning the use of services using AI. The purpose of the document is to clarify authorized and unauthorized uses and to recall the legal bases in force.

In particular, the canton’s guidelines encourage exploring these technologies and examining their implications for government departments and their activities. This includes identifying use cases and good practices, while exercising caution when processing information covered by official secrecy, sensitive information for the State or information containing personal data. Staff being held responsible for data fed into a generative AI-based service.

The approximately fifteen-page document also contains practical principles, concrete examples and use cases to guide staff on a daily basis.
