FREDERICTON — A measles outbreak in New Brunswick, which began last month with a single travel-related case, is growing and now has 44 people infected.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Health said Wednesday that all cases to date have been reported in Fredericton and parts of the Upper St. John Valley.
David Kelly also clarified that all cases reported so far are linked to the first case detected and that more than 80% of infections concern young people under 19 years old. The authorities also clarified that none of the infected people had been vaccinated against measles.
Public health officials warn that people who have not had the disease, who have not been vaccinated against the virus or who are severely immunocompromised are at risk of becoming infected if exposed.
Horizon Health Network is hosting measles vaccination clinics in Fredericton on Thursday and Friday, in Woodstock on November 27 and in Stanley on November 29.
