Climate Performance Index: Morocco among the top 10 globally

Morocco consolidates its position as a world leader in the fight against climate change, ranking 8th in the 2025 Climate Performance Index (CCPI).

This ranking was unveiled on Wednesday in Baku during COP29, recognizing the Kingdom’s remarkable efforts in reducing greenhouse gases and transitioning to renewable energy. First in Africa and the Arab world, Morocco gained one place compared to the previous edition, ahead of countries like Norway (9th), Sweden (11th) and Germany (16th). The CCPI report highlights Morocco’s ambitious objective of reaching 52% renewable energy in its energy mix by 2030, supported by innovative solar and wind projects.

These commitments, combined with a proactive climate policy, reinforce the Kingdom’s status as a major player in the ecological transition on a regional and global scale. The Index, developed by independent experts, assesses the climate performance of 63 countries across four criteria: greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy, energy use and climate policy.

With Denmark in the lead (4th place), the first three positions remaining vacant, the ranking highlights the urgency and need to strengthen global climate policies to achieve the goals of the Agreement.
