Patrik Laine started skating again on November 6. On Wednesday, he took a new step in his fitness.

He trained for around ten minutes with his teammates, having previously been skating alone.

The Finn suffered a sprained left knee following contact with Cédric Paré of the Toronto Maple Leafs during a preseason game on September 28.

In the days following the injury, the Canadian let it be known that the 26-year-old forward would be out for a period of two to three months. It’s been almost two months and the signs are more than encouraging.

Closer

We feel that everyone at the Canadian is eager for Laine to be able to return on a regular basis and for him to drop his dark blue jersey, synonymous with no contact in training.

“He’s getting closer,” Martin St-Louis said after training on Wednesday. I expect it will take him a little while to get back into it, but you don’t know exactly what that is. Is this a match? Is it two weeks? I don’t know. We’ll see how things progress.”

During his absence, his new teammates with whom he still has not played a game in the regular season made sure to integrate him into the group.

“It’s fun to finally see him with us,” said David Savard. It’s always a long time when you’re out of the lineup, you see the guys less. We’ve done a pretty good job of trying to incorporate it as much as possible, but sometimes it’s hard when the team is on the road.”
