The new infected herd, a commercial breeding farm, is located in the Carignan sector.

The day before, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency had confirmed a first case, this time in a commercial farm in Sainte-Hélène-de-Bagot.

The activities of the Poultry Breeders of Quebec (ÉVQ) are in no way jeopardized by the appearance of these cases.

Producers and other poultry stakeholders will simply increase biosecurity measures in the affected sectors.

“Spring and fall are the periods conducive to the spread of this virus. When we enter a henhouse inhabited by chickens or turkeys, we take precautions that we apply all year round. I would tell you that this morning, the Poultry Breeders of Quebec (ÉVQ) woke up with this awareness that more needs to be done. We do what we do every day, but with more thought.”

– Benoit , president of the Poultry Breeders of Quebec

There are 1,600 chicken and turkey farms in Quebec, including around 200 in Montérégie.
