The arrival of winter came with a bang at the bottom of Val d’Anniviers. During the night from Monday to Tuesday, a landslide occurred on the road linking Sierre to Vissoie, near the Pontis tunnel, cutting off access to the valley. A protective net was torn by the fall of blocks measuring almost a cubic meter, reports “Le Nouvelliste”.

Work is in progress, particularly at the cliff level scanned using a drone. “The area remains unstable and specialists must carry out purge and security operations,” communicates the Canton. The reopening to traffic is planned for the middle of next week, “in any case before the weekend of November 29”, in order to ensure accessibility to the ski areas. In the meantime, a road diversion via Chalais-Vercorin is in place, and adaptations are planned in terms of public transport.

This landslide is not attributable to meteorological or climatic causes, describes “Le Nouvelliste”, but to a phenomenon of “rock fatigue”. The Valais daily recalls that the Val d’Anniviers has already been affected several times by events of this type this year: two successive landslides in March had already affected this road.
