Rabat – The Maghreb Arab Press Agency (MAP) is celebrating its 65th anniversary on November 18, at a time when it is striving to breathe new life into its activities, commensurate with its role as a wholesaler of information, in a framework that is eminently complementary to the public media and with the objective of providing the entire national media landscape with strategic, reliable and verified information.

This date coincides with Independence Day, a glorious epic of deep symbolism in the history of the national struggle, as it celebrates the values ​​of sacrifice, commitment and sincere patriotism which presided over the creation of the MAP.

As a strategic national media institution, playing a major role in promoting Morocco’s progress in various fields under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the MAP agency is committed to its mission of consecrating sovereignty media of the Kingdom and defense of its higher interests, while remaining aware of the profound changes that the media field is experiencing on a continental, regional and international scale.

It is in this spirit that MAP has multiplied cooperation and partnership agreements with major global press agencies, in line with its strategic vision aimed at consolidating the Agency’s place as a regional and continental reference in matters of ‘information.

Founded on November 18, 1959 with the broadcast by the late HM King Mohammed V of the inaugural dispatch: “Information is sacred, commentary is free”, MAP has accompanied the major stages of the contemporary history of Morocco and the Continent , positioning itself as a powerful lever of pluralism and diversity which make up the richness and strength of the Kingdom’s identity.

Resolutely part of the major reform projects undertaken under the far-sighted leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the MAP has forged the image of an Agency constantly concerned with the expectations of an increasingly demanding audience in terms of rigor, reliability, credibility and diversity.

With a staff of 300 journalists, distributed between the central editorial office in Rabat and its regional and international networks, it stands as the main provider of verified information available in various formats: from dispatches to infographics, through photography and audio and video products.

It provides national media and foreign partners with a varied information feed, supplied 24/7 and available in five languages ​​(Arabic, French, English, Spanish and Amazigh).

Likewise, the MAP strives to uphold the values ​​of ethics and integrity very high in the face of the multiple challenges relating to the fight against “fake news” and disinformation, the threats weighing on journalistic practice and the issues of adaptation to rapid technological transformations.

65 years after its creation, the Maghreb Arab Press Agency is today more than ever part of a virtuous dynamic based on the mobilization of its skills and the federation of its energies to innovate, reinvent itself and surpass itself, in the The shared objective of consolidating the efficiency, professionalism and relevance which must always characterize the MAP and restoring the nobility to the work of a Press Agency.
