The numerous demonstrations of solidarity of Moroccans with the Palestinians “are a sign of good democratic health” of the kingdom, commented the Moroccan ambassador in Paris, Samira Sitaïl, on the French channel TV5.
These marches are “absolutely formidable and to the credit of the Moroccan people for once again showing their support for the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights to have a State within the framework of the United Nations,” she said.
The diplomat stressed that Morocco has been asking since the start of the escalation in the Middle East: “an immediate ceasefire, the preservation of life, the preservation of civilian populations, the establishment of humanitarian corridors which allow for humanitarian aid to arrive in the best conditions to the Palestinian populations and the rehabilitation of the two-state solution which can allow Palestinians and Israelis to live in peace.
“We have diplomatic relations with Israel and we are a country that has the possibility of discussing with Israel on a daily basis.” And to recall that this position allowed the kingdom to be the first country authorized to transport 40 tonnes of food and foodstuffs by land to the Palestinians in Gaza.
“We must not neglect that we have the possibility of putting pressure when necessary and of saying what we have to say to the Israeli authorities, but for that we do not need television cameras or microphones. proximity to say what we do and how we undertake it,” said Ms. Sitaïl.
The ambassador acknowledged the existence of consultations between the kingdom and the Jewish state on the situation in the Middle East. “The day the weapons stop, it will take countries like Morocco with the necessary credibility with both the Palestinians and the Israelis to sit down at the negotiating table.”
