Around 1,000 employees from all sectors and across the canton demonstrated on Saturday in Sion. Their demand: better salaries. As a reminder, it is in Valais that the average income per capita is the lowest among the Swiss cantons. Furthermore, the purchasing power of employees in the Alpine canton has declined over the last three years, according to the Unia union which organized the demonstration. An incomprehensible situation, according to Unia, because Valais is experiencing “a period of high, even very high economic conditions”, which is only favorable to bosses. The rally therefore aimed to denounce this situation.
The attendance at this first cantonal event delighted Unia: “The Valais world of work is sending a clear and strong signal to employers: it will now be necessary to take it into consideration much more seriously during salary negotiations.” The union does not intend to stop there. He has in fact already announced that Saturday’s demonstration was the first in a long series. And to conclude: “Without collective struggle, employees do not obtain what they deserve, but only what their employers are willing to give them.”
