The new CFF timetable will come into effect on Sunday December 15. Unveiled this Friday, it offers 15% additional trains in French-speaking Switzerland. Which “represents the biggest change in French-speaking Switzerland since Rail 2000”, underline the CFF.

The new features highlighted are mainly “new direct connections with the west of Lausanne, improvements in regional traffic as well as reinforced services on the Riviera and in Lower Valais”.

Users should take a look at the changes because the departures of almost all convoys in French-speaking Switzerland are modified, at least by a few minutes, and it will be necessary to take into account “an increase in travel time of a few minutes on the main axes”.

In detail, the CFF highlights for example, for our side of the Sarine, on the profit side:

– Renens is served by mainline trains. InterCity IC1 and IC5, RegioExpress RE33 and InterRegio IR90 trains stop there.

– The offer between the Pied du Jura, via Bienne, Neuchâtel, Yverdon-les-Bains and the Lausanne/Renens railway junction is reinforced: IC5 trains now run every half hour on this axis.

– From the Lake Geneva region in Valais, the RegioExpress RE33 trains, which currently run once per hour from to Vevey and once per hour from Annemasse to St-Maurice, are extended once per hour to St- Maurice and once an hour to Martigny.

– The four main line connections per hour, instead of three today, between Aigle and Geneva (InterRegio IR90 and IR95 trains as well as RegioExpress RE33 trains) offer an almost perfect quarter-hour cadence between Aigle and Morges as well as between Nyon and Geneva.

The stated goal of these new changes is “to improve punctuality on a network under construction”.
