Fall in food prices: discover the government’s new decisions

This Friday, the National Consumer Council met to examine the recent drop in prices of essential food products. Chaired by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Serigne Gueye Diop, this meeting made it possible to review several key products having a direct impact on the daily lives of Senegalese people.

The cost of a 20-liter can of refined oil is now set at 18,500 francs (ex-factory or import price), with a wholesale rate of 17,750 francs per can. In semi-wholesale, the price rises to 19,000 francs per can. For retail sales, each bottle is set at 1,000 francs in all stores in Senegal.

The price of ordinary rice is 410 francs per kilogram, while that of crystallized sugar is 600 francs per kilogram. Imported broken rice sells at 375,000 francs per tonne wholesale, 379,000 francs semi-wholesale, and 410 francs per kilogram retail. For crystallized sugar, the price is 558,000 francs per tonne, while imported sugar costs 566,000 francs wholesale, 571,000 francs semi-wholesale, and 600 francs retail, compared to 650 previously.

Concerning wheat flour, type 55 bakery flour is sold at 15,200 francs per 50 kg bag, while improved bakery flour is sold at 15,700 francs per 50 kg bag. Consequently, the price of the baguette falls by 25 francs, from 175 to 150 francs.

For cement, the price of a bag is set at 3,550 CFA francs. The exclusive price of cement is 66,000 francs per tonne, and it is 71,000 francs per tonne for distributors.
