At least six people killed in Israeli strike in Lebanon
At least six people were killed in an Israeli strike on Wednesday on a densely populated town south of Beirut, according to an initial report from the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
The strike targeted the town of Aramoun, which is outside the strongholds of the Hezbollah armed movement regularly shelled by Israel. The ministry added in a statement that in addition to the six deaths, “human remains” were found on site.
Call to evacuate Beirut
The Israeli army called on Wednesday to evacuate several areas of southern Beirut for the third time in 24 hours.
“You are near Hezbollah-affiliated facilities and interests, against which the Israeli army will act in the near future”said an army spokesperson, calling on residents of two neighborhoods in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital to evacuate, in a message on the social network X.
Lebanon: new strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut
A new strike targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut on Wednesday morning, according to AFP images, while the army has been calling for 24 hours to evacuate areas of Hezbollah strongholds.
A column of black smoke rose above the affected neighborhood, according to AFPTV images. The southern suburbs, deserted by most of its residents, had already been targeted by strikes during the night and on Tuesday.
Islamic Jihad releases new video of Israeli hostage held captive in Gaza
Islamic Jihad, a Palestinian group allied with Hamas, released a new video on Wednesday of a man who appears to be one of the Israelis taken hostage on October 7, 2023.
The video shows a young bearded man identifying himself as Sasha Trupanov. He alludes to the Israeli military offensive in Lebanon launched in the second half of September and Israeli air raids against Iran in late October, and calls on Israelis to intensify demonstrations aimed at putting pressure on the government for the release of hostages held captive in the Gaza Strip.
