Rabat – The Secretary of State to the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, in charge of Maritime Fisheries, Zakia Driouich, met on Tuesday in Rabat with the presidents of the Chambers of Maritime Fisheries and the presidents of bodies, organizations and professional associations.
This communication meeting took place in the presence of the directors general of the establishments under the supervision of the ministry and the central directors of the State Secretariat responsible for Maritime Fisheries, indicates a press release from the State Secretariat.
In her welcome remarks, Ms. Driouich underlined that this meeting is part of a participatory approach initiated by the State Secretariat responsible for Maritime Fisheries in the management of the various projects and projects relating to maritime fishing, following his appointment by His Majesty King Mohammed VI as Secretary of State for Maritime Fisheries.
This approach aims, according to her, to bring together the different professional actors, as essential partners, in the implementation of the sectoral strategy and decisions relating to the management and execution of structuring projects, according to an approach based on the rational management of fisheries resources and the sustainability of the resource in accordance with the High Royal Directives in this area.
Ms. Driouich added that the creation of a state secretariat responsible for maritime fishing once again demonstrates the particular interest that His Majesty the King places in the fishing sector.
The Secretary of State invited all components of the sector to participate in efforts aimed at strengthening the achievements made in recent years and ensuring a better contribution of the sector to socio-economic growth through strengthening its attractiveness and competitiveness. and its dynamics.
She said she was ready to be open to all components of the sector through consultation, dialogue and communication, particularly following the various issues and challenges that the sector is going through following in particular climate change and its impact on fisheries and the food ecosystem.
Ms. Driouich also emphasized her firm desire, through a concerted and participatory approach, to strengthen the development of the maritime fishing sector by strengthening and revising fisheries development plans and the adoption of a area and spatial approach in their management while supporting the various aquaculture projects and projects, considering that aquaculture constitutes an alternative and a strategic choice for sustainable exploitation of the potential available to the Kingdom in this area.
She thus insisted on the importance of supporting the efficiency of the sector and accelerating the implementation of landing and marketing infrastructure projects, supporting investments and strengthening the competitiveness of seafood products. The human factor is also at the heart of this strategy, with particular attention paid to strengthening its scientific skills, its performance and its social protection through the improvement of its living conditions.
For their part, the presidents of the Chambers of Maritime Fishing and the presidents of the various bodies and professional organizations expressed their pride in the Royal Attention manifested in the creation of a State Secretariat dedicated to the maritime fishing sector. .
