In October, 4,175 cars were subject to new registration in Luxembourg, according to figures from the Société nationale de circulation automobile (SNCA). Growth of 15% compared to September 2024 and data significantly similar to that recorded in October 2023, a sign of a market which is resisting as best it can. But which brands and models arouse the interest of buyers?

With 516 models registered in October, Volkswagen remains the number 1 manufacturer in the Grand Duchy. The German giant, which has dominated the Luxembourg market for several years, last month exceeded the mark of 5,000 units introduced into the vehicle fleet since the start of 2024 (5,021, compared to 4,626 for BMW).

In October, as is customary in Luxembourg, buyers overwhelmingly chose German brands. Thus, behind Volkswagen, three other brands populate the ranking: BMW (490 cars), Mercedes (379) and Audi (303) appear in 2nd, 3rd and 5th places. They also top the ranking after Volkswagen in the annual table of registrations in the Grand Duchy.

The biggest scratch in this Germanic hegemony is French: Peugeot, 4th, is coming out of an exceptional month with 317 models of newly registered cars, by far its best annual performance in the country.

The monthly top 10 is completed by the Czech brand Skoda (277), the French giant Renault (185), the all-electric American Tesla (154), and the Asian safe bets Kia (136) and Toyota (120).

The most registered models

If the French brand Peugeot performed so well in October, it is notably thanks to its 2008 model. This fairly compact SUV is, according to the immense file of recorded operations, the most registered car model during the month. elapsed (112 units).

The Tesla Model 3 follows with 88 examples, while the Renault Clio takes third place on the podium (81) if we consider all its engines. BMW could rise to this same level, provided that the X1 and iX1 (100% electric) models are added, sold under two different commercial designations.

In the top 10, we can highlight the presence of the indestructible Volkswagen (74), the Mini Cooper (74), the BMW X5 (71), the Volkswagen Polo (71), the Peugeot 208 (70 ), the Skoda Octavia (67) and the Volkswagen Tiguan (66).

On the side of luxury brands

While Luxembourg would be the country with the greatest median wealth per capita, it is not surprising to note that luxury models are popular with part of the population.

By examining the data, we notice, for example, that 78 models of the emblematic Italian manufacturer Ferrari, symbol of wealth par excellence, were newly registered this year in Luxembourg.

In October, seven models bearing the prancing horse logo found buyers. There are also 101 Porsche cars, 5 Jaguars, 5 Lotuses, 5 Lamborghinis, 2 Maseratis, 2 Aston Martins, 2 Bentleys, and also a Rolls-Royce and a McLaren.

Since the start of the year, Porsche is by far, among these renowned manufacturers, the one that sells the most models in Luxembourg. Figures from the SNCA show 1,093 models registered in 2024, which places the German brand not far from the national top 10 since January, in twelfth position.
