A national collection in favor of the religious heritage of villages in France was announced at the end of 2023 by Emmanuel Macron. And last April, the Heritage Foundation unveiled the list of the first 100 buildings to benefit from this collection. Among them, four Breton churches, one per department: the churches of Saint-Laurent de Saint-Laurent (Côtes-d'Armor), Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul de Plounévez-Lochrist (Finistère), Sainte-Trinité de Boisgervilly (Ille -et-Vilaine) and Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul de Bignan (Morbihan).
€290,000 for Brittany
And this Tuesday, November 12, the Heritage Foundation announced the first four grants for the Brittany region: Saint-Laurent will receive €40,000, Plounévez-Lochrist and Boisgervilly will receive €100,000 and Bignan will receive €50,000. That’s a total of €290,000. “This first endowment comes symbolically one month before the reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris, the work of which was entirely financed thanks to public generosity,” explains the Foundation in its press release.
“Since the establishment of the exceptional tax system for the religious heritage of villages, the Heritage Foundation has mobilized 16.7 million euros,” the press release also states. “6.6 million euros via the national collection of the foundation-patrimoine.org site” which “will be directed to 100 “small Notre-Dames” in French villages and small towns”.
A sum “to which were added other resources from sponsorships or legacies: 10.1 million euros earmarked by donors for rescue operations”. But, according to the Foundation, “despite this substantial aid, 5.4 million euros are still missing to cover the total financing needs and definitively save these 100 buildings.”
