The Israeli military offensive against Hamas continues to wreak havoc in the Gaza Strip.
According to the civil defense agency, at least 30 people, including children, were killed in two recent strikes targeting the north of the enclave on Sunday.
The United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees insists that no part of the enclave is safe.
“There is no safe place in Gaza. This is what many people have said. I repeat it” said Scott Anderson, deputy humanitarian coordinator and director of UNRWA in Gaza.
“Unfortunately, not all parties to the conflict respect the sanctity of sites that should be safe for civilians, including hospitals and schools. UNRWA and Palestinian Authority schools. We reiterate our call for all parties to the conflict to respect the sacred nature of these places so that civilians can find security there for themselves and their families.“, he stressed.
The Israeli parliament recently banned the agency from operating in Israel, with some lawmakers saying some UNRWA members collude with Hamas.
UNRWA officials say they take the allegations seriously. The UN said earlier this year that the organization had fired several of its employees because they were involved in the October 7 Hamas attacks.
The organization’s ability to operate in Gaza and the Israeli-occupied West Bank has been hampered by the ban, leaving many wondering who the Palestinians will now rely on for aid.
In the besieged area of northern Gaza, no food has been allowed in for an entire month as that part of the territory is close to famine.
