The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, expressed strong support for “ Khettafa“, these informal transporters, often essential in rural areas, whom he considers to be real ” veterans » for their daily contribution. He highlighted the ministry’s efforts to improve the railway network and domestic air transport lines in preparation for international events, including the 2030 World Cup.
During the oral question session in the House of Representatives on Monday, Kayouh addressed the issue of mixed rural transport, emphasizing: “ I understand the importance of this mode of transport, and I recognize that the current pace of development remains below expectations “. For him, mixed transport is essential for daily life in rural areas, where it plays a central role.
Stating that the rural world is not limited to mountainous areas alone, Kayouh highlighted the role of these vehicles which, in addition to transporting people, ensure the delivery of goods such as flour and actively participate in vaccination operations, census, elections, as well as the provision of administrative services and messages. “ These people, often called “Khettafa”, I actually consider them to be “veterans” of this sector. “, he affirmed, thus paying them a heartfelt tribute.
At the same time, the minister underlined the importance of cooperating with the Ministry of the Interior and the regional commissions to speed up administrative processes, while guaranteeing the rights of all actors involved. “ We want this category of workers to operate in good conditions without harming the rights of others “, he clarified.
Faced with criticism regarding the railway network, particularly in the east of the country, Kayouh recalled the ambitious program of the National Railway Office (ONCF), with a colossal investment of 87 billion dirhams. This program includes in particular the extension of the high-speed line between Kenitra and Marrakech, as well as the development of other lines in the east, a region that the minister described as “chail the King and all« .
These investments also aim to improve the quality of existing lines, with the construction of a wagon manufacturing plant to meet the needs of the ONCF and for export to Africa. As soon as the Taza station is inaugurated next year, the city of Al Hoceima will be served by Supratour buses, thus improving connectivity in this region.
Kayouh highlighted the impact of these efforts by recalling that ONCF transported 53 million passengers in 2023, a figure which is expected to increase to 55 million this year. “ We cannot achieve these figures without guaranteeing quality », he insisted, assuring that quality will be a priority for the new lines as for all the wagons in circulation.
Concerning air transport, Kayouh highlighted the development of domestic lines to meet future challenges. He announced that the ministry will support the expansion of regional agreements with airlines, and that Ryanair, the new authorized operator, will now serve 11 routes.
