The A9 motorway reopened in both directions early Tuesday afternoon after the accident which involved two army trucks, causing major disruptions during the morning between Sion and Sierre. No injuries were reported.
The two trucks were each transporting a tank on a trailer and the second entered the one in front of it, explained Kathleen Pralong-Cornaille, spokesperson for the Valais police. One of the armored tanks moved and had to be put back into place. In the case of the second truck, the trailer was damaged and the tank had to be removed, she added.
The accident happened shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. During the repair intervention which lasted several hours, the highway between Sion-Est and Sierre-Ouest was closed in both directions. Traffic was severely disrupted.

For its part, the army confirms that the damage is only material and that no person was injured during this accident, according to its spokesperson Delphine Schwab-Allemand.
The military police went to the site and are working with the Valais police. An investigation will be opened to determine the circumstances of this accident.
