In Madrid, a young Spanish MP took a bold stand in support of Palestine. Jorge Pueyo, 29, announced his commitment to go on hunger strike during a press conference in parliament on Tuesday.
Pueyo thus supports the initiative launched on November 19 by the Palestine House of Aragon and the Jerusalem Association. He explained that this action was essential because “there are times, in life and in politics, when words are not enough and when it becomes important to lead by example.” His hunger strike which began on Tuesday is to continue until Friday.
As deputy parliamentary spokesperson for the Sumar alliance, which is a minor partner in Spain’s left-wing coalition, Pueyo urged his country to take radical action. Among his demands are the severance of diplomatic and trade relations with Israel and the imposition of a total arms embargo on Israel. He also calls on Spain to give more visibility to the Palestinian cause.
