An accident involving two army trucks caused major disruptions Tuesday morning on the A9 motorway between Sion and Sierre. There were no injuries, but a tank that was towed on a trailer had to be repositioned correctly.
A 50-ton crane must be transported to the site, shortly before leaving Sierre-Ouest, to reinstall this tank. It moved during the collision between the two trucks, but without falling on the road, indicates Kathleen Pralong-Cornaille, spokesperson for the Valais police.
She adds that the intervention should last “several hours”. In the meantime, the highway between Sion-Est and Sierre-Ouest is completely closed in both directions. This causes significant traffic disruptions in the area. The Alertswiss website recommends taking “a wide detour to avoid the affected region.”
For its part, the army confirms that the damage is only material and that no person was injured during this accident. Its spokesperson Delphine Schwab-Allemand specifies that the repair does not only concern the tank, but also the truck which was hit.
The military police went to the site and are working with the Valais police. An investigation will be opened to determine the circumstances of this accident.
