Saccording to the press release, this action was decided in response to “deliberate disregard by the Ministry of Health and responsible authorities”. The Commission adds that, despite previous strikes, the demands of interns and residents were not taken into account satisfactorily, which led to the escalation of protest actions.
The strike will, however, not affect essential services such as emergencies, resuscitation and surveillance. “The strike will not include emergency, resuscitation and surveillance services, in order to guarantee the safety of citizens and the provision of emergency medical services”, specifies the press release.
The Commission also highlights the past achievements of interns and residents, emphasizing that these were obtained through their perseverance. “The interns and residents have made significant achievements in the past through their perseverance, and they are determined to continue their struggle until all their demands are met”, adds the press release.
Finally, the press release wishes to hold the government and the relevant ministries responsible for any future deterioration of health services which could result from this strike.
