Al Mahbès (Assa-Zag province) – Investments mobilized for the implementation of programs relating to city and housing policy in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region reached 3.5 billion dirhams ( MMDH), said the Secretary of State for Housing, Adib Benbrahim.
Mr. Benbrahim indicated, during the opening session on Saturday in Al Mahbès of the 3rd national Green March festival, that the Ministry of National Territorial Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and Politics of the city has launched, in partnership with several government sectors, numerous structuring programs in the region of Guelmim-Oued Noun, with investments amounting to nearly 2.312 billion dirhams, to which the ministry contributes 866 million dirhams (MDH).
He added that these important investments relate in particular to rehabilitation and urban development projects in various towns and rural centers, in particular the regional development program of Guelmim-Oued Noun, the preservation program of the medina of Guelmim, as well as the urban rehabilitation programs for the towns of Assa, Zag, Sidi Ifni and Lakhsass.
Concerning the implementation of programs relating to housing in the region, Mr. Benbrahim noted that the total investments are estimated at 1,207 MDH, to which the ministry contributed with more than 1,180 MDH, specifying that these investments concern the realization of several programs, including the “return and unity” program (1999-2005), the new housing and town planning program for the southern provinces (2007-2015), the projects of the new development program for the southern provinces (2016-2021), in addition to other projects relating to the fight against sub-decent housing and those programmed in the province of Assa-Zag.
The Secretary of State for Housing added that his department is currently working, with the regional council of Guelmim-Oued Noun, for the implementation of the pilot program for the rehabilitation and development of the center of Mir Left, within the framework of the new ministry strategy aimed at developing a new intervention approach in emerging rural centers.
Mr. Benbrahim and the Secretary of State in charge of Crafts, Social and Solidarity Economy, Lahcen Saadi, inaugurated and launched, on Saturday in the communes of Assa and Al Mahbès (province of Assa-Zag), several development projects, on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the Green March.
The two ministers also chaired the opening ceremony of the 3rd national festival of the Green March, which is organized for three days by the municipal council of Al Mahbès under the sign: “National unity: The consecration of Sahrawi Hassani culture, a pillar of Moroccan identity”, as part of the commemoration of the 49th anniversary of the Green March.
